About Brian:

Brian was the second of six siblings, born in the Hillgate area of Stockport in 1931.

He was an adventurous child, frequently getting himself into scrapes!

He had a loving, happy and contented childhood, Despite the long hours he worked his father always made time to play with his children.

Brian left school at 14 which was the norm in those days and he became a joiners Apprentice.
When he was 18 he was called for his two years National Service and joined the RAF.
After leaving the RAF Brian returned home to Stockport and soon after met and in 1956 married Margaret, their children Mark(1958) and Stephen (1960) soon followed.

Like his father before him, Brian worked hard to support his family, he was a loving father to the boys, and would do anything for his family.

After a particularly hard winter with little work Brian, Margaret and the boys emigrated to New Zealand in 1965 in search of a better life. This involved a six-week cruise on the Northern Star, where they met John and Jean who would become lifelong friends, they visited many countries on this adventure.
They lived in Christchurch where Brian worked as a Joiner, the boys went to school there and they enjoyed many family trips exploring the South Island. The lived there for two years before returning to the UK.

Soon after their return to Stockport, Brian and his family moved to 30 Cashmere Road in Edgeley.

Brian worked hard as a joiner and was involved in training many apprentices, one such apprentice was 16 year old Trevor who he met in 1970, Despite only working together for a few months, Trevor would become a lifelong friend, he visited Brian often.

Brian's favourite hobby was Fishing, he would often fish with his nephew David, and it was through his love of fishing that he met another lifelong friend Ian.

Brian also enjoyed Bowls and Singing, he was a great crooner and enjoyed Karaoke very much, he loved to sing and entertain others. Brian was the life and soul of the party, he was naturally gregarious, and everyone loved him.

Sadly, Margaret died in 1991 when Brian was 60 and he spent sixteen years alone, busying himself with his hobbies of fishing and bowls, Brian helped both his sons do up their own homes and even wrote his life story! His Grandchildren George and Joel also arrived during this time.

Fourteen years ago, Brian met and fell in love with Olga who was also widowed. She accosted him in the street with the immortal line “Yoo-hoo, Mr fisherman!” as she had seen Brian going fishing with Ian and was hoping to rehome some fishing gear. This led to a meal out to say thank you, and the rest is history.

Brian knew he was onto a good thing; he wasted no time in moving in with her at number 7 Cashmere Road. Olga’s love and sunny disposition gave him a new lease of life.

Olga's family welcomed Brian into their lives and Brian became a Grandad to six more grandchildren including two sets of Twins!
Olga and Brian had 14 wonderful years together, they went on many holidays and particularly enjoyed cruises.

Brian had a great sense of humour, he knew how to tell a good yarn and was the master of embellishment, he could also write a great poem at a minute’s notice, he was a real family man who would do anything for those that he loved.

When Brian's health started to deteriorate he still insisted on a happy home, it was his wish to remain at home with Olga and in the final weeks of his life he had the opportunity to say goodbye to those he loved.

Brian died at home on 12th October 2021 at 7.30pm aged 90 years.

Brian planned for his funeral, choosing the hymn and music himself, his best friends Ian and Trevor were pall Bearers, along with his sons Mark and Stephen, and Step-sons Kenyon and Lee.

We are all richer for having had Brian in our lives, and though its hard to say goodbye, we must continue to live our best lives in his memory, it is what he would have wanted.
